The Cheesecake Factory Originated in Detroit

The Cheesecake Factory

A few days back my friend and I were having lunch at The Cheesecake Factory located in Woodland Hills, California. We were approached by the marketing coordinator for the restaurant chain and she asked if we didn't mind her taking a picture of us for their website. Of course we agreed I mean we love The Cheesecake Factory, her offering us complimentary cheescake didn't hurt either. While I had her there I asked the question that many of Detroit natives ask, "why isn't there a Cheesecake factory in Michigan?". She informed us that she was responsible for establishing the first 30 Cheesecake Factories all over the country, but Detroit has never been on the list. She also told us that ironically the original Cheesecake Factory started in Detroit, Michigan. Wow!

The owners are originally from Detroit, Michigan and the original restaurant started in 1949. Evelyn Overton began making cheesecakes for her husband Oscar business associates and opened a bakery in a finished basement in her Detroit home. The business ran in Detroit for 20 years. In 1967 their son David left Michigan for Law school in California and in 1971 he convinced his parents to move the restaurant to Los Angeles, Ca. The first commercial bakery opened in North Hollywood, Ca and now there all over the country, accept Michigan of course. The owner has said that he will never open a Cheesecake Factory in Detroit. Well, I did convince the marketing coordinator that Somerset mall would be perfect for a Cheesecake factory or even downtown Detroit, so she decided to email her colleagues about a Michigan location. She seemed pretty excited about the idea after informing her that Oakland County is in the top 5 list for the richest county in the country. I don't know, but maybe Michigan might see a Cheesecake Factory in the next 5 years or so. You guys can thank me for that; HA! Until then the closest is in Chicago, Illinois, 4 hours away.

Entrepreneurs Pursue Business Start-Ups Even in Bad Times

In todays hard economical times, many are deciding to put their hobbies, dreams or skills to use. Many people are deciding to start their own small business. With unemployment being at 5-10% across the country many are finding themselves applying most of their efforts toward job hunting. Your millions could be sitting right in your face. Take the time to think about the skills that you possess. Some of us feel as though we don't have the time, but just a few hours out of the day can be enough to start a small business. Most small businesses are very affordable, and if you don't want to do it yourself hire someone to do it for you. Bank or America has recently announced that they will be hiring 1,000 small business bankers by 2012. The government is now attempting to get a bill passed to allocate more funds to small business start-ups. This tells us that entrepreneurship is on the rise.

Sometimes I Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes I Don't.....

This past Saturday, one of my closest, and favorite friend said "I do". The wedding was small and intimate with a few friends and of course family. Weddings are always usually so predictable, from the walk down the isle to the bouquet being thrown over my head, but this one was different. I guess it was the fact that there were only 30 guest and we all got to spend a lot of time with the couple right after the ceremony. We were in between all the kisses, hugging, smooching and I Love you, I Love you I Love you. It made me feel all bubbly inside, it made me feel..........oh God I'm about to say it......noooo........it made me feel like getting married!! There I said it!

In this decade marriage is a brave step to make, especially if you're not use to answering to anyone and sharing your space. More than 50% of marriages end in divorce. Out of all the married couples that I know there are probably 2 that I know that are faithful. I met a guy just last week and he hit on me with his ring on. After about 5 minutes of conversation I asked if he was married and he said "a lil bit". One of my male friends said that he could give me 100 reasons why a black man will never be faithful. He says I'm a nut and crazy if I ever get married. After all those warnings, I still sometimes want to get married. "Sometimes I feel like a nut and sometimes I don't". Before I embrace the notion of marriage I need more proof of successful couples and better statistics on the divorce rate in this country. I think my friend will make a great wife, she's a Taurus like myself and we share a lot of the same characteristics, great home makers being one of them. Today I'm still feeling blissful, and all bubbly inside, which means I'm feeling like a NUT.

Does size really matter?

October 4, 2010

Many women will shock you with their answer when asked this question: does a man size really matter? I can honestly say that the answer is 50/50 when I ask women. Like myself some women feel that there is a such thing as too large and too small. Some women go even further by saying it depends on the girth size or the length. Me I prefer for the size to be just right!

I hate to stereotype but, usually those guys who are a lil short always have so much to talk about and typically angry. If I had to I would bet that 50 cent and Kanye West are both lil men. The lil men are so angry that they came out short; it's not our fault. You can also spot the "lil men" by their foreplay performances, they are licking toes, elbows.......everything!!!!!! Going the extra mile....then BOOM! Meet lil fellow. So disappointing. Some women feel that going those extra miles make up for the shortness, but trust me it doesn't. Me personally, it seems like all the chicks that are in love with the dude with the HUGE you know what are always broke. Guys who have the huge penis are usually broke. I guess sitting around all day makes their penis grow.

I read once in an article that India is believed to have a high number of AIDS victims because the average size condom doesn't fit the India man. Can you believe that ?! Their penis slides right out of the condom!! HAHAHAHA too funny! That could be a myth, you can't believe everything you hear like all black men are packing, NOT! Like all white men are small, I DON'T KNOW! All tall men are packing, NOT! I hear that Shaq is embarrassingly small. At the end of the night I guess its up to the woman to determine what is just right for her.

Hollywood Monet: Everything isn't what it seems

October 1, 2010
I pitty the fool who believes everything they see and hear about celebrities. Trust me after living in LA for 7 years I have seen a lot of BS and heard a lot of talk. My years of living in LA tells me that my image of Holly wood was nothing more than a classic monet. It still cracks me up when I think about my days of living Detroit, when I believed that all celebrities had money HAHAHAHAHAHa!!! That's a joke! I personally know people that you see on T.V. everyday that are in foreclosure, don't have a car, and tries to borrow money from me. I wish I could call names, but that would be too messy. We read the gossip blogs, magazines and look at these phony reality shows for 13 weeks when its all a bunch of bull. Picture this: I log onto bossip and I see an article about two celebs dating, 2 hours later I get a call from a personal publicist friend telling me that it was just done for publicity. WoW. Just today I'm riding home from dropping my daughter off at school, this driver tries to cut me off, but of course me being from Detroit and all, I wasn't about to let that happen. I had to catch the person in the '99 PT Cruiser who dared to cut a Detroit girl off in traffic. As soon as I caught up with him to give my dirty look, you're not gonna believe who it was! Sorry, I can't tell you because this is not Mediatakeout. Anyhoo he's a well known actor in "Black Hollywood". I guess what I'm trying to say is everything is not what it seems. Those people out here with an everyday 9-5 has more going on then the people we rush to follow on facebook and twitter. Well until next time Tray Washington signing out.

Atheletes Obsolete in African-American Issues

November 5, 2008
Former NFL player, Jim Brown recently shared his thoughts on MJ and Kobe:
The way Brown sees it, many of today’s athletes are simply in it for the money and celebrity, refusing to accept responsibility for having a huge impact on the culture around them. And he’s not afraid of naming names. “Athletes need to represent more than that just getting a big contract and lots of endorsements,” he says. “Take Michael Jordan. To me, he’s full of bull. He’s hiding his true self. All he cares about is getting ahead, being popular and enjoying the wealth of this country. Same with Kobe Bryant. For them, it’s all about making money and doing all the commercials.” Brown expects more from today’s athletes. After all, he walked the walk. When Muhammad Ali was stripped of his heavyweight title and threatened with jail time for refusing to register for the draft during the Vietnam War, it was Brown and Boston Celtics star Bill Russell who led a contingent of black athletes who offered Ali their support. “Sports is detrimental to the development of culture if all you’re willing to do is enjoy the fruits of this country,” he says. “You’ve got to reinvest in the culture, not just exploit it. Today people just want non-combative heroes, who smile and say all the right things. That’s fine, but that doesn’t mean you have to play the fool and shake your butt just because you caught a pass for a touchdown.”
Although we have always loved MJ, and ‘no comment’ on Kobe, but those two guys have been almost non-existent when it comes to real issues facing Black America.
The Question of the Day is: Are athletes like MJ and Kobe responsible for investing in a positive future for Black America solely based on the fact that they are successful athletes?

I've been saying this for years about black athletes. They don't have a voice. I start asking why, don't they ever speak on the issues that African-Americans go through such as Jena 6. If we lived in a country that did have obvious racial biases this conversation wouldn't come up. We all know that their are still some injustices that African-Americans face in this society.

In the past we had heroes like Muhammed Ali, Kareem Abdul, Arthur Ash etc that were very vocal on the cultural issues. Unfortunately, I think that most of our generation of young black men are just not showing the potential that they have as leaders and don't show any signs of black pride especially in the sports industry. They just care about money, fame, hoes and clothes. It's so sad. You see these guys showing off their big homes, cars, and big stones on cribs. It's like "enough already"!!! Been there seen that. NEXT!!! I once heard that the NBA and NFL restricts players from getting involved in political matters and speaking on conflicting cultural issues. Even still one has to make the choice to stand for something, and these guys only stand for the glamour and the fame. How unfortunate.
